Introduction To The Rhythmic Breathing Pranayama

Benefits of Rhythmic Breathing:

  • Calming or “cooling” effect on the nerves
  • Breathing becomes rhythmic and organized (as opposed to sporatic and shallow)
  • Harmonization of the entire system (the physical, mental, and energy bodies)
  • Compulsive habits are brought under control
  • And many others that can be experienced through regular practice

The 3 Processes

Here are some key points to remember:

  • Sit in a comfortable posture, free of tension and distractions, with your spine straight
  • Place your hands on your knees, palms open and facing upwards
  • Do not strain your breath if the practice is difficult at first – relax and do what you can
  • REMEMBER: During the Rhythmic Breathing, when you are inhaling it is for the full duration until the next exhale, which is a mild exhale until the next inhalation. There is no pause or retention of the breath. Do your best to match the rhythm.
